🌟A Vision for the Future

At St. Mary’s Catholic School, we believe that every student deserves access to the tools that will shape their future. That’s why we’re excited to share our vision for a new state-of-the-art computer lab, specifically designed to serve students in Grades 9 through 12. This initiative is more than a technology upgrade—it’s a commitment to fostering innovation, improving academic performance, and preparing students for the digital demands of the 21st century.

🎓 Who Will This Lab Serve?

The new lab will directly benefit 150 to 200 students each week, supporting various disciplines including math, science, language arts, and technology. Beyond regular classroom use, the space will also host after-school programs focused on college and career readiness. Our goal is to create a central hub for digital exploration and experiential learning.

🧭 Why a Traditional Lab?

We’ve chosen a traditional computer lab format because of its stability, accessibility, and manageability. Unlike mobile devices or shared carts, a dedicated space offers consistent hardware configurations, secure network connectivity, and easier integration with the school's existing infrastructure. Importantly, the lab will be fully ADA-compliant, ensuring equal access for all students, including those with disabilities (Brown et al., 2019).

🖥️ Inside the Lab: Tools and Technology

In terms of equipment, the lab will house 25 desktop computers with 16 GB of RAM and SSD storage, paired with high-resolution monitors. These will be supported by ergonomic furniture, including adjustable desks and chairs, to promote comfort and productivity. The design will also feature a centralized printer station and a server cabinet for managing data. Software essentials like Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, and a Learning Management System (LMS) will ensure that students have access to industry-relevant tools.

🗺️ Design with Accessibility in Mind

The layout of the lab is thoughtfully designed for functionality and accessibility. Five rows of five computers provide ample spacing, with 3-foot-wide walkways to accommodate wheelchairs. A teacher's desk is positioned near the entrance for clear visibility, and a double-swing entry door is centrally located for easy access. The design ensures that all students can navigate the space comfortably and safely.

💰 Smart Budgeting for Long-Term Value

From our $60,000 budget, we’ve allocated funds strategically to maximize value. Most of the investment will go toward hardware, software, and furnishings, with the remaining funds set aside for ongoing maintenance and future upgrades. This approach ensures that the lab remains functional and relevant for at least the next five years, with options for expansion as technology continues to evolve.

🚀 Transforming Education at St. Mary’s

Ultimately, this lab will be a transformative asset for St. Mary’s Catholic School. It will enhance digital literacy, foster independent learning, and provide students with the skills they need to succeed in technology-driven careers (ISTE, 2022). With a design that prioritizes inclusivity, functionality, and sustainability, our lab will serve as a blueprint for future-ready education.

💬 Join Us on This Journey

We’re proud to take this step forward and invite our community to join us in supporting this exciting initiative. Together, we’re not just building a computer lab—we’re building brighter futures.
